Why Live in Long View

Long View, North Carolina, just west of Hickory, is gaining attention due to nearby job centers and entertainment options in West Hickory. This small town has single-family homes, local restaurants, and green spaces, and draws many first-time buyers and commuters to the Charlotte area. Housing includes bungalows, Colonial Revivals, ranch homes, Cape Cods, split-levels, and newer traditional builds, some on larger lots with minimal tree cover, while small oak forests appear throughout the area. Homes generally range from about 1,000 to 2,200 square feet, with many built in the 1950s through the 1970s, and there are no homeowners’ associations. Families are zoned to several schools with solid reputations, including East Burke Middle School. For things to do, Henry Fork River Park has 10 soccer fields, a horseshoe pit, and a small boat launch, and the Long View Recreation Center provides courts, a baseball backstop, and a playground. Nearby attractions include the Hickory Aviation Museum and L.P. Frans Stadium, home of the Hickory Crawdads, about 2 miles away, plus downtown Hickory about 3 miles east. Long View holds a May Day festival with live music and craft vendors, and daily needs are met along U.S. Highway 70 and 1st Avenue with chain and local dining, grocery stores, and an Asian market. Residents should be aware that FEMA maps show flood risk near creeks, and tornadoes and severe storms can occur. Greenway Public Transit serves the area, Interstate 40 and U.S. 321 support commuting, and Charlotte Douglas International Airport is about 51 miles away.
