Mathews
Mathews is as far east you can go along the aptly named East River before encountering the Chesapeake Bay. It’s one of the many peninsulas jutting away from Gloucester, but it’s unique in two ways: first, it has Gwynn Island hovering around the north end, and second, New Point Comfort Lighthouse sits on the southern tip, near a nature preserve.
