Pompton Lakes
Pompton Lakes is a New Jersey borough surrounded by lakes and the Ramapo Mountains. Dutch settlers originally used the area as farmland before the discovery of iron ore resulted in major development of the area in the 1700s. Pompton Lakes voted to split from Pompton Township in 1895, and the borough was officially incorporated the same year.
