    In 1901, the Central Iron and Coal Company was looking for a new headquarters, so they sent an executive named Frank Holt to scout a plot of land along the Black Warrior River east of Tuscaloosa. Central Iron and Coal purchased the site, building a new foundry for iron production as well as a company town, which comprised 350 houses and a school.
