A 4-acre artist compound in California is on the market, and the broker selling it says it’s the perfect place for a non-conventional buyer who wants an “outside the box” lifestyle.
The property is listed for just shy of $4.4 million. Its three-bedroom, three-bathroom main house is a “historically significant” mid-century modern house built in 1956, listing agent Tracy Bunetta with Sotheby’s International Realty wrote in a Homes.com listing. But it’s what’s outside that house that sets the listing apart.

All told, there are four separate spaces on the property, including the main house.
First, there’s “The Cantina.”
“It’s kind of two parts under one roof,” Bunetta said in an interview. One side of the Cantina contains space for entertaining, complete with a full bar. The other side is a living space with an additional bedroom and bathroom.

Bunetta said the space could be used for anything, though.
“It’s been used for a recording studio,” she said. “Could be really used nicely as a guest house if somebody had an in-law or something like that. There’s no kitchen in it, but that would be easy to implement.”
The third space is a shipping container that’s been wired with electrical and furnished as an office space. “It’s just kind of another little vibey art space,” Bunetta said.

“You could use it as a yoga room or something like that,” she said, “or an art space.”
The fourth space is a decorated Airstream RV. Though it’s not livable as is, Bunetta said it could serve as a play space for kids, an art house or “just a place to go sit in the afternoon and read a book.”
Close to nature
More than its unique spaces, though, Bunetta said the California complex also offers buyers a place in a special community. The property is nestled between Calabasas and Malibu in the Monte Nido community. Bunetta described the area as “very much a neighborhood,” but said it affords a degree of privacy to its residents.

“You can live in L.A. your whole life and not even know you can drive right by it,” she said.
It’s also surrounded by hiking and horseback riding trails, making it a desirable spot for nature lovers, too, according to Bunetta. And on the property itself, there’s an in-ground container pool and an outdoor gym space.

More than that, the residence has also been a hotspot for the others in the neighborhood, she said. The former owners used their land to host the community’s annual Fourth of July picnic and October Square Dance.
“It’s not to be confused with the sort of McMansions of Calabasas, not the Kardashians and the Biebers,” Bunetta said. “This is a very rural feeling – horses, dogs, kids, donkeys, goats.”
