Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood gained fame for his film acting and directing — and in California he’s also known as the former mayor of beachfront city Carmel-by-the-Sea. Now, brokers are seeking a buyer for the estate where Eastwood lived as mayor.
The 100-year-old gated estate is known as “Los Ondas,” and it served as Eastwood’s residence from 1981 to 1996, a period that includes the four years he served as mayor, according to a statement from the Tim Allen Properties Team. Eastwood sold the house to the current owners, who renovated the property between 1996 and 1998. It’s listed for $21 million.

Those changes to the four-bedroom, 4,500-square-foot house included a new roof, earthquake protections and updated air conditioning and plumbing systems. Now, the house is equipped with a media room, a wine cellar, two laundry rooms, and balconies overlooking the beach.

Despite updates to the house, listing agent Tim Allen said the property is a favorite for locals because of its history.
“Many long-standing residents in the region have an affinity for the history of this property,” Allen said in a statement. “The warm and inviting spaces, both inside and outside, take you back in time and are reflective of Carmel’s old-world style and beauty.”

Eastwood, 94, is known for his accomplishments in the film world as one of “the most prolific, versatile artists in the history of the medium, involving himself first as an actor, then as a director and producer,” according to the California Museum. He grew up in California, where he now owns the Mission Ranch Inn and Tehama Golf Club.
Brokers are searching for “affluent buyers from outside the region who are interested in purchasing a second home in a vibrant coastal town,” the team told CoStar News in an email. And the current owners said in a statement that they hope the new owners “enjoy this historic home and share it with their friends and family for years to come.”
The house is listed on a members-only multiple listing service, the online platform that brokers use to list properties, and the team is speaking to financially qualified buyers.
“This historic home is elevated one street back from Scenic Drive, so you have inside and outside views of the Pacific Ocean, yet it’s peaceful and private since it is a gated property perched above Carmel Beach,” the team said. “The quality of construction, timeless design and large lot size all combine to make this one of the premier properties in Carmel-by-the-Sea.”
