A French-style chateau in Houston's ritzy River Oaks neighborhood that was listed for nearly $25 million has sold for what a residential sales group calls the second-most expensive home sale in the region’s history.
The 15,000-square-foot house about 5 miles west of downtown Houston was built in 1994 on the golf course at River Oaks Country Club. The family of late philanthropist and billionaire Fayez Sarofim sold the property to Greg Lalicker, chief executive officer of local energy company Hilcorp, and his wife Helena, according to local deed records.
While the terms of deals are undisclosed publicly in Texas, the sale at 3630 Willowick Road is the priciest in Houston so far in 2024 and the second costliest ever for the area, according to the Houston Association of Realtors, an organization with access to the sales records. A home in the nearby Memorial neighborhood that was listed for more than $26 million sold in 2022 in Houston's most expensive home sale in history, according to the HAR.

The recently sold house in River Oaks has five bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. It includes an elaborately decorated kitchen, breakfast and dining rooms; ornate ironwork; and antique fireplaces, among other features. Outside, the 1.5-acre property has a garden landscaped to evoke Paris, a fountain and statues imported from Europe, an in-ground pool and a koi pond.
Rachel Solar of Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty was the listing agent for the seller. The house was first put on the market last year for $29 million.
