A house purchased by Stan Lee is on the market in Los Angeles — along with three life-sized Spider-Man action figures signed by the comic book icon.

The three-bedroom, seven-bathroom house was put up for sale last week for $8.8 million, according to a listing on Homes.com. It’s also available for rent with an asking price of $55,000 per month. The listing comes nearly 10 years after Lee and his wife purchased the property for $4.4 million.

Lee purchased the house as a gift for his daughter, J.C. Lee, listing agent Naomi Selick of Douglas Elliman said in an interview. When the father-daughter duo first saw the property, “they really envisioned that whole, you know, kind of indoor, outdoor California lifestyle.”

Selick added that “the house has a lot of memories of spending time as a family together there, and they had a lot of big parties,” describing the listing as “a real entertainer’s home.”

Lee is known for his role in the creation of Marvel Comics, including characters such as Spider-Man, Black Panther, Iron Man and Hulk. Originally a comic book writer, he made frequent cameos in Marvel movies, including the “Avengers” franchise until his death in 2018.

Now, Lee’s daughter and Selick are hoping to find a buyer for the property. Selick said J.C. Lee is hoping to leave the house for a new property where she can keep horses.

Desirable location

Selick said the property’s past ownership is a big draw — especially because buyers have the option to purchase three signed life-size action figures of Spider-Man alongside the house. The price for the figures is negotiable, according to Selick.

But in addition to its storied past, the property is a rarity in Los Angeles, she said. For one, the house is more than 5,000 square feet but only a single story, a big draw for buyers who might not want to deal with stairs. And it sits on half an acre, considered “a very large lot” in the area.

The house’s amenities include a paved deck that the Lees used as a stage, a movie theater, a pool, a spa and a cabana.

On top of its size and unique features, the property’s location sets it apart, according to Selick. The house is in The Bird Streets — an enclave where streets are named after birds that Selick called “one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the world.”

The neighborhood is nestled in Hollywood Hills West, just above the famed Sunset Strip lined with restaurants and nightlife, as well as the Sunset Plaza shopping mall. According to Homes.com data, the average home value in Hollywood Hills West is more than $2.8 million, and the median resident age is 48.

“You're far enough away from the stores and the restaurants to feel a sense of privacy, but close enough that it’s a minute or two down the hill,” Selick said. “It’s really such a desirable area that you know that's attracting just anyone who wants to live in that area.”
