About This Home
Renovated County Jail which adjoins the Sheriff's House was built in 1911 and housed prisoners for over eighty years. At the time of construction, it was state-of-the-art with features like a central locking system for the cells. The renovation was completed in 2001 and the result was a theme restaurant on the first floor. Upstairs are four residential units which retain some of the bars and slate floors of the original jail. The unique apartments are now known as the unique custom Jail House apartments. Imagine living in this unique apartment in beautiful renovated Historic Building located in Owego, which was dubbed "The Coolest Small Town in America," by Budget Travel Magazine in 2009.
The Sheriff's House at the corner of Main and Court streets was constructed in 1882. It was the home and office for the Tioga County Sheriff McMasters. The house had six cells for women prisoners on the second floor (the bars are still in the windows). In later years, it was occupied by law enforcement. In 1997 it was purchased by Bruce Nelson with plans to renovate for adaptive reuse and now it houses three unique luxury residential units and five office suites.
