After graduating from Boise State University with a degree in History and a lengthy career as a classroom teacher, Ben decided to apply his experience and skills to the administration of public education. A lifelong learner, Ben has earned a Master's Degree; then, he achieved the highest possible degree in education, a Doctorate in Educational Administration with a focus on improving opportunities for at-risk learners. Ben has been a vocal advocate for education by speaking at countless national conferences and by writing for several education outlets.
In 2014, The Idaho Business Review recognized Dr. Merrill as an Accomplished 40 under 40 Award recipient.

He proudly revels in the experience of fatherhood as his two children, Kaylee and Kellen, continually amaze and inspire him. While attending one of his daughter’s dance recitals or watching one of his son’s sporting events, Ben repeatedly marvels at the pleasure children find in a community that serves its youngest members. Because Ben understands that a proper community enhances the lives of his children, he knows that his personal knowledge can be used to help families find the right fit in their future home towns.
