Mike helped my family during a difficult time when we were forced into selling the house because of a painful family situation. He was not even our realtor of record. Nevertheless, Mike provided us with wise counsel, helping us come to a fair agreement and satisfactory conclusion to our difficult situation. Mike recently managed the sale of our family home in San Diego. He displayed amiable eagerness to work with us - for our benefit. I would highly recommend him for any real estate transaction. Here’s the list of why.

His expertise is comprehensive. He is a master of detail, his knowledge about real estate in San Diego is encyclopedic, but never intimidating. He talks about real estate with a kind of passion and excitement that immediately put me at ease. It’s obvious that he’s excellent at his job is because he loves what he does.

He has an extensive familiarity with the San Diego area, and the neighborhood. I’m confident that this would be the same wherever he would be working, whatever market he’d be doing business in. He’s really on top of trends in the housing market, very informative about things locally and elsewhere.

Makes everything easy, recognizes complexities in simple things and makes complicated things very easy to understand.

Mike immediately recognized the potential of our property: he advised us of numerous options, all aimed at making us comfortable with whatever we desired, whether it was selling the home “as is,” all the way to doing a “gut renovation.” His familiarity of renovated listed properties in the neighborhood (it was clear he’d done a lot of homework based on our address even before our first meeting - the man is prepared) was incredibly helpful in our decision to do extensive improvements on the house. He provided advice and guidance on making renovations within our means, and gave us numerous options on contractors, supplies and timing. Yes, those improvements cost us considerably more than originally estimated, but that’s common in the world of renovations. It was all worth it in the end because of the increased value of the house.

Mike was incredibly sensitive to what families go through when letting a property like this go. While his eyes were always on a deadline, he always made sure that there was a kind of cushion for our anxieties.

Occasionally there were some timing issues with things happening later than we would’ve wanted but as we found out, it was because Mike wanted to make sure things were done right, than just done quickly. And through it all, Mike always reminded us that we were the boss and he always implemented our decisions over his.

He’s an instinctual businessman, he follows his hunches when appropriate, all of which all paid off in our favor.

And from our first meeting to closing, he asked for nothing more than our confidence in him.

By the end of the first day that the house was listed, we had multiple offers above asking. And after 2 days of competing bids we accepted a final offer far above what we could have hoped for. A happy ending indeed.

Most important - Mike is just about one of the friendliest of people I’ve ever met, the sort of guy you’d not just want to do business with but just want to hang out with as well. He’s the sort of person who deserves nothing but the highest recommendation.

I have worked with Mike Shenkman on numerous real estate transactions over the past 15 years, from acquisitions/dispositions, property management, unlawful detainer actions, need for legislative guidance (I.e. Covid regs), and community-based policy issues. His vigor and work ethic is unmatched, and I can’t think of a single professional in the industry across SoCal (and beyond, frankly) that I can trust more with my business. I’ve come to him with multi-million dollar projects and high-stakes legislative issues, and smaller, first home purchases, and time and again, he puts in the same level of unwavering dedication and personal consideration across the board. Mike’s expert knowledge in real estate is simply unmatched by anyone. He was efficient, professional and 100% committed.
