A peaceful neighborhood nestled into the Northside area of Richmond, Rosedale offers residential charm and quick access to everything the city has to offer.
Mature oaks and maples line the tidy streets of Rosedale, which are laid out in a grid with wide sidewalks. “The architecture is gorgeous in Rosedale,” says Sean Carlton, Realtor at Long & Foster Realtors. “The houses are very nice, and residents really care for them.” With an impressively wide variety of architectural styles, take a stroll through this neighborhood and you’ll find everything from brick ranch homes with large front windows and low-slung frames to Tudors with steeply pitched gable roofs and half-timbering. Colonial Revival homes with symmetrical window designs and wide, deep porches are prevalent, along with plenty of bungalows with thick columns and unenclosed eave overhangs. Most properties sit on lots less than a half-acre in size, with shallow, landscaped front yards and fenced-in backyards.
According to Carlton, houses can cost anywhere from $300,000 to upwards of $700,000, and inventory is extremely low. “Right now, houses are selling so fast that if you put one on the market on Friday, it’ll easily be gone by Sunday,” Carlton says.
Kids in Rosedale can attend Linwood Holton Elementary School, Thomas H. Henderson Middle School and John Marshall High School, which are all part of the Richmond Public Schools district. John Marshall High has a robust athletics department, offering students year-round opportunities to participate in over a dozen sports, including football, cheerleading, track, basketball and tennis.
On a sunny afternoon, bring the kids to PARK365, a modern neighborhood park boasting a range of play areas, including a treehouse, waterway, climbing hills and slides. Enjoy a picnic under the shaded canopy of a white oak tree or reserve the pavilion for a larger gathering.
Right down the road, enjoy the pastoral charm of Bryan Park, a 262-acre city park home to many mature trees as well as a pond, soccer fields, an azalea garden and many paved pathways for walking, running and biking. On Saturdays, the park buzzes with the presence of Richmond’s largest year-round outdoor market, RVA Big Market, where you’ll find vendors from across the region selling local produce and handcrafted items.
Head to Brickhouse Diner on the Blvd, serving breakfast and lunch in Rosedale, for staples like eggs benedict and thick stacks of pancakes. Less than a mile down the road, the bustling Scott’s Addition neighborhood offers dozens of popular local restaurants, breweries and coffee shops. At Afterglow Coffee Cooperative on Summit Avenue, orde a cold brew or cappuccino made with coffee beans roasted in-house. Reserve a table on the patio at Pinky’s on Norfolk Street to enjoy Mediterranean-inspired tapas and mains like char-grilled octopus and crispy chicken piccata.
For groceries and other essentials, a quick drive north on West Broad Street leads to familiar supermarkets and retailers such as Kroger, Walmart and Home Depot.
With Interstate 64 bordering the western side of Rosedale, residents have quick access to the greater Richmond area and beyond.
