Dolores Gonzales Elementary School is a public school located in the Barelas neighborhood of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dolores Gonzales School opened in 1975 and enrolls about 450 preschool through fifth grade students. A dual-language program was started at the school 15 years ago to honor the school’s namesake, Dolores Gonzales, an advocate for bilingual education in the state. The program offers first-language instruction until second grade, when students are taught using a combination of their first language and the second language. The school offers an after-school program with the Rio Grande Educational Collaborative. This unique after-school learning experience is designed for extended learning where students can get homework help. Dolores Gonzales Elementary School also boats an active PTA and tutoring assistance. Students are required to wear school uniforms. Kids Cook!, a nonprofit organization that teaches students and parents about nutrition, also offers programs at the school.

The teachers are wonderful. The principle is a nightmare and would rather throw children away than work with their differences.

Excellent. My husband and I love Dolores Gonzales Elementary. The quality of teaching is outstanding in both English and Spanish languages. The principal is always highly involved in and sincerely concerned with everything that affects the children and the quality of their education and well-being....
