GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

The culture at Ankeny High School is very strong. The teacher and administrators are very kind and welcoming to all students and family's. It is a warm and successful culture that is easy to feel home at. The worst thing about Ankeny High School is the lunches, they get very old and repetitive. Additionally, there is not enough food for the average student most days.

My experience at Ankeny High School for me personally has been good, but not extraordinary. The admins do a very good job of stopping and taking care of problematic students, and recognizing students who have earned large achievements. However, in my opinion, I feel as though AHS pushes for all of the students to attend a four year college and nothing else. I don't believe that there is a lot of resources for the students who want to go to trade school, beauty school, or a seminary. Not to mention that only recently has our school board welcomed a student representative, as the school board has history of making decisions that have not gone over well with the student or parent body. Overall, AHS has good academics, mostly good teachers, and strong sports programs, there are only just a couple problems (as least in my opinion) with supporting students who don't want to take a traditional path.

Ankeny High has great teachers but when you have a bad teacher it is the worst of the worst. Parents dictate a student's level in sports a large amount most of the time. The school is motivated by money so richer students often have more of an advantage.

This school is far more welcoming and friendly than their sister school; Ankeny Centennial. This is overall what I have experienced throughout all the schools on the South side though.

I am the parent of a former special education student as well as a former food service worker at this school. Sammi was treated with respect and overall concern when she struggled. Her whole teaching staff came together when things got tough and helped her succeed. Thank you!

I am a former student from ankeny school and as a child I moved around a lot and was always miserable as my new schools and then I found ankeny and fell in love! Never have done better in my life. My children will for sure go to ankeny

I'm actually a former student, but apparently those who had to deal with principals and parent influence on a daily basis aren't qualified to comment on them. Plenty of programs for everyone, facilities are good, and certain departments (bio, spanish, chemistry, physics) have excellent teachers. How...
