Located in the heart of the historic Grove Park community, the John Lewis Invictus Academy (JLIA) opened in Fall 2017. The school serves a student population of approximately 900 six through eighth grade students supported by faculty and staff committed to providing quality, engaging lessons in a compassionate and equitable learning environment. JLIA envisions its students becoming local, national and global leaders who will be catalysts for economic and social change and prepares students to be leaders by promoting five core competencies: Social awareness, self-awareness, self-management, relationship skills and responsible decision-making. The school’s key focus areas are high-quality teaching, literacy, and the STEAM pathway to strengthen critical thinking skills and promote engaged learning in real-world scenarios. JLIA was named after the late Congressman John Robert Lewis, a noted Civil Rights leader who advocated for equity and equality for all people. In spring 2022, JLIA opened The John Robert Lewis Service Center on the campus. The center serves as a community resource hub providing food assistance, clothing assistance, mental health counseling, financial literacy workshops and other resources to students.
