Serving almost 1000 6th to 8th grade students in the Grant Park area, King Middle School's international baccalaureate program elevates both its curriculum and its students to become top achievers. The first public school in the United States to be named after civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Junior, the school takes the international aspect of its baccalaureate status seriously, instilling students with a global perspective as it prepares them to conduct themselves with honor and compassion as they enter the competitive environment of the modern world. As part of the IB curriculum, students have their pick of a number of elective courses including art, chorus, orchestra, swimming, and career and technology education. Extracurriculars available to students range from dance, theater, junior beta, student government, and debate team to competitive sports including football, basketball, baseball, soccer, track and field, and cheerleading. The school also hosts non-competitive sports like cycling, kickball, and swimming. To elevate the aspirations and future success of its students, King Middle School offers mentorship programs with community partners like Emory University, Atlanta University Center, Georgia State University, and community volunteers who work tirelessly to give pupils the tools they need to succeed in high school and higher education.

I'm a parent of 3 that have made their way through the public school system - 2 have special needs and I can tell you from my experience that if you have a high-achieving child they will probably be ok at King, if they can overlook the constant fighting. If you have children with special needs howev...

Students (especially the girl students) are sexually harassed with no punishment to their harasser, and in some cases, get in trouble for seeking justice. The administration justifies these actions and don't punish the male students because they’re on the football or basketball team. It’s horrifying...

Please ignore any reviews that suggest that there is systematic racism against white students. The statement in itself shows a lack of knowledge of what constitutes systematic racism and reveals a clear bias. The reality is that some white parents are uncomfortable in predominantly black spaces and...

Systemic racism and homophobia are prevalent at this school. My son is picked on daily for being both white and gay. He has his hair pulled and also beat up by another student (who was expelled). The administration has taken no action that has changed the situation for him at all. We are now leaving...
