Just a short walk up Exposition Boulevard from the residential streets of Tarrytown sits the newly renovated, state-of-the-art campus of Casis Elementary, home of the Cougars. At Casis, history meets the future. It was named after two pioneering women from Kingston, Jamaica: Lilia Casis—the first female professor at the University of Texas—and her sister, Josephine, an Austin Public Schools teacher. In 1951, the two institutions partnered to create Casis Elementary. Since its inception, the school was considered a model learning community committed to rigor, inclusivity, and innovation, and it remains so today. With a perfect 10 out of 10 rating from GreatSchools for student test scores, the school far exceeds state performance averages. STEAM learning is a top priority at Casis as art, music, and technology are seamlessly integrated into the curriculum. Students may participate in special “recess in the garden” Fridays or step right outside and join the Forest Club to further explore the campus’ lush grounds. Students are treated to many special experiences that range from guest author visits to a themed carnival week. After school activities, such as fitness classes, a school newspaper, and Knitting Club are certain to keep young Cougars engaged long after the formal school day ends. Year after year, Casis continues to honor the spirit of excellence first imagined by its founders. Fifth graders leave the school primed for success and incoming kindergarteners make their way up Exposition Boulevard, ready to begin a learning journey that is sure to be lifelong.

The facility is new and beautiful! People seem so happy going in and out. We have two children having two different experiences. The 1st grade teacher is enthusiastic about her work and seems well trained and prepared. She can speak to specific strengths and weaknesses of our kiddo. Our student is m...

Teachers are AMAZING... 5 stars and then 5 more. You won’t find a bad teacher here. My daughter’s education is thriving at Casis. She’s a bright child already but her teacher’s definitely nurture her. The downside: Casis is severely lacking in ethnic and cultural diversity. It is also difficult for...

My children will both go to school here until 5th grade. The oldest is in kindergarten now. She has the hardest working teacher who is young and vibrant. I adore this school. There is a forest in which to play, three playgrounds, easygoing and hard working teachers and supportive PTA and parents. Th...

Our experience at Casis was confusing, sometimes deserving of a 1 (or zero if I am honest) other times a 5 or 6, so I averaged it to a 3. Just my observation, but it seems to me that curriculum and learning environments are a little more consistent across classrooms at other schools that I’ve seen o...
