Kathy Caraway Elementary in Austin’s Great Hills neighborhood has welcomed students since 1978. The school was originally known as North Oaks Elementary – a nod to the towering, heritage trees that envelop the campus. It was renamed in 2005 to honor Kathy Caraway, the school’s first principal. The Round Rock Independent School District is well-known for providing all students with a rigorous foundation in core academics and a wide variety of enrichment opportunities. Learning which combines science, technology, engineering, art and math, also known as STEAM, is given special emphasis in the classroom and beyond. In the global competition, Destination Imagination teams use ingenuity to solve real-world problems. Caraway students can also join the robotics club, enter the Austin Regional Science Fair and compete in a math pentathlon. Caraway’s active parent-teacher association hosts many experiences to keep students excited and engaged. For example, the Bike Rodeo event had BMX stunt riders wow onlookers with their skills. Students also tackled obstacle courses for prizes. Challenging academics, enriching activities and lots of fun make Caraway Elementary a quality provider of public K-5 education in the Great Hills neighborhood.

Caraway is exemplary in academics, and yet also has a small neighborhood school feel to it. Faculty and staff...

Not good. If you can get over the fact that the parents at this school are completely arrogant then you're left with the fact that the administration is clueless, discriminatory, and rude...Overall, decent curriculum with an incredibly bad atmosphere.
