Laurel Mountain Elementary creates a strength-based nurturing environment for children in grades K-5. Located on DK Ranch Road, this public school serves over 700 students to help them become independent leaders, critical thinkers and responsible citizens. Students at Laurel Mountain learn through play and experimentation. The school is home to an innovative program known as Enrichment and Environment, or e2. The program encourages students to cultivate curiosity, a deep connection to the natural world and a lifelong love of learning. They master core academic fundamentals at the same time. A math lesson might involve building a bridge or fort out of natural materials. On another day, science class might be taught in the school’s rain garden. Students can gather for story hour in the nature to neighborhood studio. At Laurel Mountain, learning happens everywhere, all the time and especially outdoors. Students can round out their days with after-school activities such as coding, drawing, stop motion animation, drama, speech and debate, piano and chess. The school helps students in the Great Hills neighborhood learn to become leaders within their own communities.

I don't know why the previous reviewer was complaining about the principal. We love Ms. Marvel! She is a caring, compassionate leader, who is accessible to the parents and students and very focused on the social/emotional needs of her student body. The teachers are great, but unfortunately the climate is going downhill under the new principal. Worried that lots of tenured teachers are leaving, so the school may not stay great for much longer.
