At Martin Middle School, sixth through eighth-grade students from the East Cesar Chavez neighborhood develop the skills to become the next generation of outside-the-box thinkers, creators and leaders. As Austin’s first fully integrated school, Martin Middle has always been a forward-thinking place. Today, the school continues preparing and inspiring future trailblazers. Martin Middle works hard to pair each student with a mentor to ensure they have the support they need. The school is home to a challenging program known as The Innovation Academy that focuses on science, technology, engineering and math learning, or STEM. The school’s annual STEAM Fest celebrates the achievements of these young innovators. Martin Middle offers several Spanish courses, including Advanced Placement Spanish. Even as middle schoolers, students can take the Advanced Placement Spanish exam may receive college credit. They can also participate in the LULAC National Education Service Centers Austin program to visit universities across Texas and the U.S. Arts and athletics are an essential part of life at Martin Middle. Students play in the orchestra or band, learn guitar, sing in the choir or pursue visual arts. They can also compete on the lacrosse team, run track or play tennis, soccer, basketball, football or volleyball. After school, students can participate in activities such as cheerleading, student council, art club and Tech Squad. Parents and other relatives can take part in the fun with free programs after school hours, including cooking classes.
