Northwest Elementary School in Wells Branch serves students in pre-K through fifth grade. Though it’s in the Austin city limits, it’s actually part of the Pflugerville Independent School District and feeds into Westview Middle School and Connally High School.
At Northwest Elementary School, everyone works together to support students so they can do their best work and uphold the school’s mission, “to create a legacy of empowered leaders.”
The school currently participates in "Leader in Me," a highly-acclaimed FranklinCovey program that brings the principles of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” to the classroom and helps teachers, staff, caregivers and students create a positive school culture.
The school is committed to providing students with a strong foundation in reading, math, science and social studies so they can move on to middle school with confidence.
Fun activities all year long keep students busy and motivated. One annual highlight is the holiday gingerbread man hunt. Students must find the storybook character, hidden somewhere in the school, using a series of clues.
There’s also the Fall Festival and Spring Fiesta, movie nights and lively pep rallies to rev kids up for STAAR tests at the end of the year.
Every day at Northwest Elementary School, students are encouraged to shine their brightest. Just so they never forget, the Star is the school mascot.

Daughter had went here for two years and in that two years she has been bullied, securely assulted, and multiple infections from this school , high not recommended!! And my daughter is only in 2nd grade.

Northwest Elementary teachers and staff are top notch! The PTO is strong and involved and makes it more of a community of family feeling. Northwest is an amazing school with caring and warm staff. There are great opportunities for students who are academically advanced (gifted or not) like Destination Imagination, Science Fair, Math Pentathalon, Duke TIP and Geo Bee. Also, they started a piano program in music this year that is wonder...
