At Desert Sage Elementary School in Southwest Boise, students are encouraged to follow the example of the school's mascot, Cody the Coyote; this means that they will strive to be respectful, responsible and cooperative in all that they do. This Title 1 academy has served kindergarten through fifth-grade students since 1974 and strives to maintain a community of multicultural learners empowered through collaboration and community support to achieve their full potential. Desert Sage Elementary’s campus offers a dedicated music room, cafeteria, modern classrooms, two playgrounds and a recreation field, giving students the resources and amenities they need to thrive. Desert Sage is working to address behavior problems by providing comprehensive interventions that reinforce positive attitudes and participating in Project Lead the Way, which fosters engaging and hands-on lessons created to improve student empowerment, knowledge and life skills to find success in the future. Kids will love to engage in the school’s various athletics and arts programs that include S.O.L.E. Kids and Girls on the Run, where cardiovascular activities lead to improved fitness. Other school programs include choir, drama and the Art Club through Young Rembrandts, where pupils can hone their artistic skills. The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
