South Junior High School was one of Boise's first secondary schools to open its doors in the 1940s. The school features a signature Art-Deco style that can be seen in its windows and facade. Since then, it doubled in size to include additional classrooms and an arts building completed in 1972. The campus offers an expansive recreation field it shares with Bowden Park, tennis courts and basketball courts, and the school just so happens to sit next to the South Municipal Pool. The South Junior High Bobcats are encouraged to achieve their potential through academics, the arts and appreciating the diversity of others. The school’s AVID program is recognized for providing exceptional support and readiness for college-bound students or kids looking to enter trade school. The National Junior Honor Society also runs an after-school program for young achievers. Athletics and liberal arts are a focus on campus, where students can find a range of extra-curricular activities to enjoy. If the arts appeal to your kids, you won't find a better music program in the district. South Junior High offers a band, four choir programs, piano and guitar instruction as well as an orchestra. Football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, cross country and softball are just a few team sports available to students. Winter lovers will especially enjoy the ski and snowboard club, which offers December sign-ups. South Junior High's holistic approach to educating kids by providing ample academics, sports and training in the arts makes it a fantastic academy for helping kids find the confidence to face tomorrow's challenges.

This school is full of bad people that don't know how to be respectful and include a lot of drugs. I constantly get bullied for the most random stuff and other students get involved in fights. The new vice principal is extremely strict. (They suspend you for running in the halls to get to your class...

It's rowdy and used to be know as one of the roughest middle schools but outside of one or two miscreants taking a street sign or ding-dong ditching it's great. The field and basketball courts are open for all, along with the Tennis courts that probably get more use from the neighbors than the schoo...
