Mark Twain Elementary is proud to be a National School of Character, a Missouri Gold Star School, and a National Blue Ribbon School. Serving grades K-5, the school is home to around 175 students, with a low teacher-to-student ratio of 10:1. As a “Leader in Me” school, Mark Twain Elementary takes a holistic approach to education, with a focus on teaching leadership, creating a culture of student empowerment, and aligning systems to drive results in academics. This approach integrates these practices into the entire school culture to produce students who have the skills they need to thrive as adults. And the system seems to be working. More than three-fourths of the students at Mark Twain Elementary scored at or above the proficient level for math, and 82 percent scored at or above that level for reading. Test scores for the 2018-2019 school year placed this school in the top one percent of all schools in Missouri for overall test scores. Academics are further enriched by several specialized programs at Mark Twain. The school’s Learning Enrichment and Acceleration Program (LEAP) is the school’s K-5 gifted education program. The Special School District also provides language, speech, and resource room assistance for students who qualify for these services. Additionally, the Mid-County Y offers a before and after school child care program at Mark Twain. The school district has invested heavily in a 2018-2023 building reconstruction project that includes updates to Mark Twain Elementary. The plan included renovations to Mark Twain to further enhance the student learning environment.

Mark Twain is simply an amazing school. We moved here from Eastern Europe in June 2014 with our 5 year old daughter who barely spoke any English and started Kindergarten in August. Three month in she was speaking very good English, made plenty of friends and was perfectly integrated. Principal, Teac...

We could not be happier. This is simply a wonderful school in every aspect. The teachers are outstanding, everyone is extremely friendly and dedicated, and our kids absolutely love it. This school was one of the main reasons to move to Brentwood and we are so glad we did.

Excellent small school, but they have large ideas and are ready to inspire children. I've been pleasantly surprised over the last year as I've realized they are already incorporating many things I read about online in education. As a parent, I want to stay ahead in what is being offered to my kids,...

I don't necessarily want to move back to St Louis, but I might consider a move that's how amazing this school is! We were so sad to leave an amazing Principal and teachers. We have moved quite a bit and have experienced multiple school systems. This is by far the best! If you have a chance to attend...
