On the corner of Couse Street and Garden Street, in view of the interstate, stands New Beginnings Family Academy. Established in 2002, it is the first charter school in Bridgeport to provide education for elementary school children. The school is divided into two sections, as the lower school consists of pre-kindergarten through third grade while the upper school includes fourth through eighth grades. As a charter school, NBFA is funded by the state and students attend at no cost to them.
With 500 students divided into class sizes of no more than 20 students, the school strives to provide high quality education that prepares its students for the future not just academically, but also socially and emotionally.
NBFA uses an experience-based curriculum and emotional responsive practices to ensure that the students are being supported in every area of their lives. It is through this that the school strives to build brighter futures for their students and the community at large.
