GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

I enjoyed my experience at James River. The athletics are great and the clubs help me to be involved with my community. I have a lot of friends, but I find it hard to connect with the teachers in my school.

I had fun at James River Highschool. I made lots of friends and had awesome teachers who love to help their students in the best way. I am going to miss my school, but I know I will always be a knight.

James River is a major small town school. Everyone is very country and there are barely 400 students there. I only attend JRHS half a day because of Governor's School, but both of my afternoon teachers are really great. My English teacher has prepared me for life and college the most. She is very wise and all knowing. For being a small school, James River offers a good amount of AP and dual enrollment courses and and many clubs. The faculty is great and the principle is the best.

There's nothing particularly wrong with James River High School, the biggest issue would be the students overall.

I loved going here for high school! I learned so much about the subjects I took as well as myself as a person!

I am a current senior at James River, and I love it. I started high school at Lord Botetourt, and transferred within three weeks because I could not deal with the teachers and students who didn't care about academics or each other. At James River, everyone is very friendly and wants to help you succ...
