Since 1974, Clay Middle School has promoted an environment that is respectful, responsible, ready to learn and full of pride. These core attributes are reflected in excellent academic and athletic performance from sixth through eighth grade. Despite having a large student population, Clay Middle School has a competitive student-teacher ratio and is highly rated by many students and local parents. Students from 11 distinct elementary schools in the district prepare for high school at this East Carmel campus. Clay Middle School offers a number of programs for gifted students and students who need additional language support. The Advancement Via Individual Determination, or AVID, is an elective program that promotes advanced goals and accelerated academic participation. If this program isn’t a right fit for students, they can still connect with the high-ability program for advanced studies in one or more courses. A strong English as a new language program prepares students from diverse, global backgrounds to achieve proficiency in the English language. Any Clay Trojan can participate in athletic events at Clay Middle School. Teams have recently achieved undefeated seasons at all grade levels in tennis, track and cross country. Performing and visual arts programs cover drawing, ceramics, band, theatre arts and choir. Students can also make friends and learn new skills in a variety of organizations, such as a chess club and Clay friendship circles.

I think it is a fine school. I was amazed to see that 4.0 honors kids being told that to be 4.0 and an athlete was the BEST way to show "greatness". Come on. Some kids don't want to play sports. Didn't see anyone saying 4.0 with fine arts was great. Give me a break.

As a former student there I want to point out the true lack in care for student growth and diversity inside the school. Most (not all) teachers didn't take the time to make sure students retained material. I left the school everyday struggling to remember what I had learned that day. Teachers and st...

Best Middle School in the state. Don't believe me. Go there. Only negative thing is the cafeteria food (they serve corn dogs and microwaved bosco sticks).

Clay Middle School has been a great place for our 2 children. They have enjoyed the exceptional music programs (both band and orchestra). Teachers have, for the most part, been challenging but nurturing. The front office personnel can be a bit unfriendly and off-putting which I have never understood...

Okay. It is very focused on academic and sporting achievement while all but ignoring developing each and every students character. We have personally been disappointed in the school with our child being new this year. It is too large and impersonal for our tastes. Children who have gone through the...
