Buist Academy for Advanced Studies is located on the neighborhood’s north end and serves kindergarten through 8th grade students. With over 500 students enrolled, the school has a 15-1 student-teacher ratio, larger than most schools in the county. The slightly larger classes allow students to interact and learn in social settings and give students the chance to foster lasting friendships. This magnet school consistently ranks as one of the top schools in the Charleston County School District and the state at large. With above-average test scores in each subject area, parents are eager to put their child’s name in the lottery for a chance to enroll in the school. The rigorous curriculum is based on units of inquiry. The school requires all students to enroll in either the French or Spanish language program, allowing students to gain a functional understanding of a foreign language. The school’s mission is for students to use their knowledge and education to become local and global leaders. Since the school was established in 1985, serving students and educating tomorrow’s leaders has been and continues to be the top priority.

I graduated in 2020 as a K-8 student and it was a pretty good experience, however the recent changes leave much to be desired.

I have been going to Buist academy for 8 years and I have learned a lot and done very much. There are great opportunities with clubs and the teachers offer many after schools help programs. When I have questions the teachers never fail to help me out.

The nurse knows everyone because the school is so small, so kids are not afraid to go see the nurse if something is wrong which can make a huge difference. The school is extremely safe and goes through many safety measures to ensure that everyone in the building is 100% safe.

Not a lot of teacher turnover. Dedicated teaching staff. Not the most communicative administration but individual teachers are responsive. Ps most of these reviews are worthless, just visit the schools you like and go with your gut.

I’m almost all the time called the n word at this school, also 2/4 teachers always are on my case and never on anyone else. The other 2 teachers are completely fine with me but the other two are always saying I’m a bad child, and I’m always talking back. One time the teacher gave me a warning for ch...

The teachers are so chill, so literally you only get bullied and nothing else. the tests and quizzes NEVER match with w...

Excellent school with a wonderful staff. Plenty of extra curricular activities for the students to get involved I would highly recommend the score to anyone.
