In the center of the Daniel Island community lies one of the top-ranked schools in Berkeley County. The Daniel Island School serves over 1,000 students from prekindergarten to eighth grade with a 16-to-1 student-teacher ratio. The school offers public transportation, although most students choose to ride their bikes to school since it’s so close to many of the island’s neighborhoods. While the school is only zoned for communities on Daniel Island, students with a parent working for the school system can apply to attend here even if they live on the Charleston peninsula. Daniel Island School is teeming with extracurricular activities, including Drama, Ocean and Beta clubs, and an annual student-teacher volleyball tournament. The school boasts above average test scores and holds a very positive reputation in the community. Since its doors opened in 2006, the school’s mission has remained the same; to provide students with a well-rounded education and instill a passion for creating a better tomorrow.

Daniel Island school has proven to be an excellent school for our 4 children. The academics are excellent and the the teachers are very responsive when we have a question. I love the structure and the low ratio to children in the classroom. A terrific school!

The teachers are amazing and truly care about the children and their education! Parents on the whole are very engaged and supportive which also helps. Our children went...

I'm currently in eighth grade at this school and it's a great school. The teachers motivate me to learn and I look forward to coming to Daniel Island School each day. Five stars, but bullying awareness could be better.

Evidence of high expectations, concern for the students' social-emo...

Teachers are mostly great. Principal Leigh is terrible, however, and was put in place thanks to nepotism. The biggest issue with the school is actually the parents who are about as entitled as they come and think any little thing is 'bullying', but judging the school based on teacher quality, it is...
