The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
The Test Score Rating reflects annual state test results for this school compared with scores statewide.

My experience with GWHS was unique. Considering it was rated as one of the best schools in West Virginia, I don't feel like it lived up to that standard. There is a big skipping culture and it's as if the administration does not care. People tend to leave school during class and there is no system preventing that. If you focus on yourself and go to class it should not affect you. They have a good amount of APs and classes to offer and they have decent athletics. I would like to see a more serious administration that cares about the students attending class.

George Washington high school One of the best high schools in West Virginia, Because of this, we are over populist and crowded. There are only two bathrooms which can lead the long lines during the school day. School lunches are free provided by school but it's not great.

I've had 3 students go through GWHS and my experience has been that if you are a troublemaker or underachiever OR you excel in academics and are in AP/Honors programs you get a lot of attention. However if you are in grade appropriate classes and making A,B or C you get no attention and there is no pushing to do better or concern for these students.
These great reviews are all from the administration trying to get more children to join. I have lived in Oklahoma and Texas, and compared to the high schools there, this is a joke! The students are never engaged and mental health rates are at the worst low here. If you want to send your child to a h...
Good test scores do not equal a fair and pleasant experience. If you want drama, come to GW. If you want racism, come to GW. If you want a school with little diversity and horrible attitudes, come to GW. I have encountered so much racism going here as a biracial female. The promiscuity is unmatched...
