Located at 3751 N. Broadway, the Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School was opened in 1946 by Rabbi Solomon Goldman and serves pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students with a private Jewish education in the heart of Lakeview. Named the Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School in 1988, the school was awarded Blue Ribbon School status by the U.S. Department of Education for its strong commitment to academic excellence. Accredited by both the National Association of Independent Schools and the Independent Schools Association since 1961, Bernard Zell employs 60 full-time teachers and enrolls 548 students. First through eighth grade students enjoy an average student-to-teacher ratio of just 8-to-1. Two-thirds of Bernard Zell's instructors hold advanced degrees and 25% have been teaching for 20 years or more. Bernard Zell combines a challenging core curriculum of science, history, literature and math with studies in Jewish culture, religious practice and the Hebrew language. Students are encouraged to become independent thinkers who practice self-advocacy as well as empathy for others, while discovering their Jewish identities. Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School continues to build the ethical and intellectual character of Jewish children to create a "vibrant, caring, student-centered community," that "cultivates confidence, problem-solving and leadership."

I am an alumni and parent of a current student. The education is incredible but the community is what sets it a part from the rest. The curriculum is stronger than when I was a student and I appreciate the innovation and integration of new concepts in teaching. I know when my child graduates they will be well prepared for the next chapter in their development.
