Located at 541 W Hawthorne Pl., the Chicago Day School serves junior kindergarten through eighth grade with a private education in an urban setting. For nearly 40 years, the Chicago Day School has prioritized independent learning and the pursuit of personal excellence, enrolling 200 students who enjoy a student-to-teacher ratio of 10-to-1 and an average class size of 25.
Children are guided to develop healthy emotional and social states through respectful interaction with their peers. Students are encouraged to take risks and explore their own interests through unique projects like starting a campus business, building a rocket, writing poetry or researching wildlife habitats.
The Chicago Day School's curriculum centers around an academic core of science, math, language arts and social studies, supplemented by Spanish and French, visual art, music, drama, technology and PE classes.
Students enhance their classroom instruction with field trips to Chicago's museums, theaters and performance venues to gain real-world experience and grow culturally and intellectually. Children plant seeds in local prairies and remove buckthorn trees from nearby forest preserves as part of the Chicago Day School's service program, and an annual trip to Alabama's Space Camp teaches students more about STEM.
