CICS Wrightwood is part of the Chicago International Charter School network serving elementary children from kindergarten through eighth grade on the city’s South Side. CICS schools exist as alternatives to public schools and provide parents with education options for their children that are free but enhanced by a more challenging curriculum. Wrightwood’s Accelerated Reader program allows students to explore literature at an individualized pace, and it promotes literacy and a love of reading. Students' schedules include physical fitness and movement in between required science, math and reading classes. Altogether, there are 740 students enrolled at Wrightwood that enjoy an average class size of 25 students and a teacher-student ratio of 19:1. A large percentage of the CICS faculty have a master’s degree or higher. Students are required to wear uniforms as a part of the school policy. They can participate in many rewarding after-school and extracurricular activities, including dance, theater, basketball, and cheerleading. As a charter school, Wrightwood offers inner-city kids a chance to flourish in the midst of a challenging urban environment. Wrightwood’s teachers work with parents and the surrounding community to create a nurturing learning environment where excellence, equity, and innovation are emphasized and free thinkers are encouraged.

The kids, no matter how young or old, are very friendly. The staff is very hands on. For example, every morning before school, and every day...

The parking situation for after school pick up could use some help but overall the school is organized and keeps me informed on upcoming events. Most of the event...
