Named after former U.S. Vice President and 1925 Nobel Prize-winning diplomat Charles Gates Dawes, Dawes Elementary is a fine and performing arts school serving 985 students in pre-K through Grade 8. The school strives to create passionate and lifelong learners through original, creative lessons and a rigorous arts-based curriculum. As a Chicago Public Schools cluster magnet location, the Dawes curriculum emphasizes personal expression and the social collaboration needed to succeed in an ever-changing world. Students graduate with a keen eye toward career readiness as they enter high school, as well as a background in the arts as they relate to all subject areas. Dawes Elementary is a past recipient of the 21st Century Learning Grant, in partnership with Metropolitan Family Services. Opportunities at Dawes include National Junior Honor Society membership, bilingual education options, and summer and after-school programs. Numerous opportunities for parental involvement, both in person and virtually, are invited and encouraged.

I think the resources are ok. There are functioning computers which all the students need, so that's good.

I felt like I wasn't involved in the school even though I was in through all of the grades. (PK-8th Grade) I didn't know who was the counselor until I was in 7th grade.

The staff at this school does not reflect the students population at all. It amazes me that the school is predominantly Hispanic, but the majority of the teachers are Caucasian. There are hardly any programs/activities to promote cultural awareness and I feel that the principal does minimal for the...

i used to attend this school and personally, it didn't prepare me at all for high school. The counselor did little to help with high school registration and many of the teachers just take up space in the classroom. They should just stay home because your child will have to struggle to learn everythi...

i went to this school right down the street from my house and transfered because i wasnt learning nothing. my brother graduated from 8th grade in 08 and my mother feels he didnt learn anything either.
