Kelvyn Park High School is located on the west side of Belmont Gardens. The school serves over 400 students in grades seventh through 12th. When Ames Middle School closed, Kelvyn Park became a combined junior and senior high school for the area. The school focuses on instilling resilience, perseverance, creativity, compassion, and intimacy in its students. Over the past several years, the school has focused on social and emotional learning and less punitive disciplinary measures. To ensure staff reflect their community and can communicate with the students they serve, 70 % of staff are bilingual in Spanish. Though Kelvyn Park High School’s graduation rate is generally around 50 %, they continue to work toward strengthening their programs. In addition to traditional academics, the school also offers specific courses and real-world experiences for students that center around digital media, health care and military careers. Extracurricular activities include sports such as soccer, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, and co-ed baseball.

I attended this school for 3 years and I loved it. The support I received from both the staff and the teachers was spectacular.

kelvyn park high school is on a different level of education, due to the demographic of the surrounding neighborhood. the teachers tried to help as best they could, however, they were ham strung into being a glorified baby sitters.

I am a 1975 Grad. My Grandmother, Mother, Aunt and Brothers are all Grads. People and neighborhoods change. I visited the school with my wife some 7 years ago. The "kids" were OK quite busy! We thought that there was too much technology and not enough learning going on. The principal at the time was...

I graduated in 01. And the bad reviews I've read so far are pretty much true. Too many bad students, particularly the one's in gangs. On my first day of school I've seen two fights. The teacher's. Were OK. Its just how the school is run, which is poorly.
