Situated among tree-lined residential streets at 6700 North Greenview Avenue, Joyce Kilmer Elementary School serves prekindergarten through eighth-grade students in the Rogers Park community. The school’s stated mission is to produce "confident, reflective and proactive" students who become "critical thinkers, expressive writers, and avid readers." Known as a high-ranking public elementary school in Chicago, Joyce Kilmer Elementary is named after poet and WWI soldier, Alfred Joyce Kilmer. Joyce Kilmer Elementary enrolls approximately 700 students who enjoy an average student-teacher ratio of just 12-to-1, and over 50 known languages are spoken among the school population. In addition to the core academic curriculum including math, science, literacy, computer studies and physical education, students can broaden their interests and skills in environmental, technology, language and reading clubs. Joyce Kilmer Elementary's Cougars roar to victory on track and soccer fields and basketball courts. Additionally, students can participate in competitive cheer, softball, football and volleyball as part of the school’s vibrant athletic programming. Joyce Kilmer Elementary also earned Bronze Level status from 2015-2016 for being a Healthy School and was honored by Chicago Public Schools for its creative use of the arts in the classroom.

This school is run like a prison. Our child attended two days and we had to withdraw her because she was not allowed to use the bathroom during the school day.

My son was placed at Kilmer for preschool after aging out of early intervention. He had such an amazing experience there that I decided to send his twin sister to Kilmer the next year. They both have made a ton growth and progress while at Kilmer. I am now sending my rising 5th grade to join her sib...
