LaSalle Elementary Language Academy is a Chicago Public Schools magnet school that specializes in world languages. It serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Like the other magnet programs in Chicago Public Schools, acceptance is based on automated lotteries to ensure all children in the city have equal access. Daily instruction is offered in Mandarin, French, Italian and Spanish. LaSalle strives to provide students a comprehensive education that encourages an appreciation of diverse cultures and languages and provides opportunities to acquire effective communication skills. Faculty and staff at the school attempt to achieve its goals by creating a community with high expectations, structured support and dedication. Students in seventh and eighth grades are offered the chance to travel abroad to have an immersive experience in the culture and language they have been studying. Strong parent involvement and fundraising gave the school a new playground recently in addition to scholarships to help students pay for study abroad and other activities. Extracurricular activities offered include music lessons, choir, STEM activities, arts and even cooking lessons. Students in fifth through eighth grades can participate in sports such as softball, volleyball, soccer and basketball. The overwhelming majority of eighth grade graduates from the school are admitted to their top choice high school. Applications to all of Chicago’s magnet schools are due during the fall application period. Current LaSalle students’ siblings receive preference, followed by applicants from the proximity and tier system lotteries.

Lasalle provides a wonderful academic community and a unique educational experience within CPS. Love the world language program and support given this is a small school compared to other CPS elementary schools.

I was a previous parent of Lasalle students as well. I had 2 children attend this school. I've felt the exact same way over their years at Lasalle. Being minority African American boys they had the worst experience when it comes to students teacher relationships. It is so obvious and apparent. I don...

Lasalle used to be the holy grail of schools but times have changed. The lower grades are wonderful but once they are in the upper grades things change especially if you are AA and a boy. The language program is filled with so many biases against them and sadly the staff don’t even see that and you...
