Language is the basis of law, politics, business and literature, and the study of foreign languages can unlock whole new worlds in these fields. Unlocking those worlds is the core goal at LaSalle II, a pre-kindergarten and K-8 World Language magnet school in Ukrainian Village. Nearly 600 students come here to learn how to read, write and speak Arabic, French, Chinese or Spanish. The programs work: LaSalle II representatives have placed well in several regional and national foreign language exams and contests. Beyond learning languages, students also learn about foreign cultures. The most anticipated aspect of the curriculum for many children is the optional international field trip, open to all who maintain good academic standing. Of course, LaSalle II offers more than an international perspective. Other academics are strong, and test scores in both math and reading proficiency are above state averages. In terms of facilities, the campus takes up the better part of a block, featuring a playground, baseball diamond, indoor gym and library. There are also two computer labs and two science labs. LaSalle II is a public magnet school with no attendance boundary — you can apply for the enrollment lottery if you live in Chicago. You'll get priority based on your Chicago Public Schools (CPS) tier (the Ukrainian Village area has a mix of all four) and proximity. A final note to avoid confusion: LaSalle II is modeled on the success of the original LaSalle in Old Town, and both are CPS World Language charter magnet schools.

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

I went to Lasalle from 4th-6th grade in 2011-2014. Overall, I enjoyed my time at LaSalle. The language program was a lot of fun and broadened my horizons a lot. The academics were fairly good. They do offer Algebra to 8th graders. A handful of kids in my class got into selective enrollment high schools and many of my friends from LaSalle are going to good colleges. Since I went to LaSalle, the academics have probably gotten even better. At the time, the school was going through a weird sort of gentrification where the younger grades were substantially wealthier and less diverse. The clubs offered are great, the languages are great, the playground is great, some of the teachers are great. This is a wonderful school if you live in the neighborhood, although I don't know how far I'd commute for it.

A great education in a diverse learning space has been our experience. For being a magnet school where people travel from far and near, there is a great school community to be found. Lots of school spirit driven events, and we love the location.

Our son has been at LaSalle II since pre-K 1 and will graduate in 2026. We have been very happy with his teachers (especially during the pandemic) and the entire staff during his time at LaSalle II. LaSalle II is academically challenging yet incredibly supportive, we receive updates and progress rep...

My daughter has been at LSII since kindergarten. She has had an overall very good experience. We could not be happier with the leadership at LSII. It is also a really nice community of parents and kids! There is strong parent involvement. We would not hesitate to go there if we had to do it all over...

My daughter attended LSII from kdg-8th. We thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the LaSalle ll community because it is just that, a community! The instruction my child received was well rounded and it really prepared her for HS. She’s crushing her freshman year at Lane Tech. Dr. Albani and the entire...
