Located at 1841 N. Springfield Ave. in Chicago, the McAuliffe Elementary School serves the Logan Square and Hermosa neighborhoods and is named after Sharon Christa McAuliffe, a teacher that boarded 1986's ill-fated space shuttle trip. Built in 1991, McAuliffe Elementary School sits on 2.4 acres and is designed to reflect the architecture of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Enrolling 634 students, McAuliffe Elementary stresses science, technology, engineering and math in the classroom, but offers students a vast selection of extracurricular programming. Students can participate in design and sketching, instrumental lessons, art production, drama, dance and music appreciation courses in opera and rock n' roll. Every year third through eighth grades attend the school's annual science fair. 89 percent of McAuliffe Elementary School's staff have been teaching for at least three or more years and students enjoy an average class size of 25 and a student-to-teacher ratio of 17-to-1. McAuliffe's Learning Garden was launched in 2013 to provide children with an outdoor learning environment that includes edible plant life and an agricultural focus. Partnering with the Logan Square Neighborhood Association (LSNA), the McAuliffe Elementary School works with the community to support an academic mission that generates "confident, creative, and critical thinkers."

McAuliffe pushes students to be the best versions of themselves, as a former student I had teachers constantly pushing me to do my best, they have left meaningful impacts in my life. They have thought me to always do my best.

The schools is over all competent academically. But the teachers don’t really encourage students to do better, they let them stay where they are. There’s parents assisting in school activities and some parents act like they’re there to parent rather than to do a job some speak to the students or yel...

As a parent you expect for quality education, especially since now in Chicago you are pretty much forced to send your child to whatever school is in your district, otherwise you would have to do private, but not every family is financially able to have that option, I being one of them, prior to my c...

This school has had a series of misfortune with its administrators. The current principal held a lot of promise. Completely unprofessional and no behavior managment in place for the students. The kids are so out of control and he rather bully her staff than ever correct a child. If students and pare...

I went to the school as a child and now my kids go there. We have challenges in the community, but one thing we want is that the people who teach our kids are being respected and not belittled by their principal or whoever is in charge (for the time being). The principal seems to fear parents and th...
