Metcalfe later became a civic leader as an elected member of congress and the Chicago City Council. The Ralph H. Metcalfe Community Academy enrolls over 300 prekindergarten through eighth-grade students on South Normal Avenue as part of the Chicago Public Schools system. The academy's curriculum empowers students to solve global challenges and is supplemented with vibrant programming in STEM, music, sports and other extracurriculars. The Girls Rock Science club organizes group projects and meet-ups where students can explore scientific principles with their peers in an interactive environment. Visits to Butler College Prep offer students valuable insight into high school. Field trips to roller skating rinks and seasonal celebrations like Spring Fling, Fall Harvest and Winter Wonderland support school spirit. Metcalfe's red and white Mustangs are winners on and off the court. Students at the Ralph H. Metcalfe Community Academy are sure to excel.
