GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Lots of college readiness resources and high level classes, including a wide array of AP choices. School spirit and inclusivity is very high for all students.

The community at Walter Payton is amazing and I've met all different kinds of people. The environment is welcoming and the teachers make sure everyone in class is doing well. The coursework is reasonable but still challenging.

Walter Payton is an incredible school for academics as most of the teachers have degrees higher than a bachelors and want to see students succeed

Just move to the suburbs and send your kid to a well-funded suburban district. My son went here and honestly there’s more to life than AP classes. Fields for sports on campus are nice to have. A track so your kid isn’t jogging around the building on pavement. Auto mechanics. Welding, EMT classes. Bu...

Payton was a great school. I honestly took advantage of Payton when I went there, but it still gave me the advanatage on a ton of colleges that I shouldn't have got in to. Amazing teachers, some have left, but still amazing teachers. Glad I chose Payton instead of Whitney young or northside. I would...

I'm a recent graduate (2011), and I have very mixed feelings about the school. Sadly, many of these are negative. I chose Payton over many other great high schools because I wanted a challenge and good reputation, which many high schools in CPS just can't provide. When I got there, I was pleased wit...

Graduated class of 2008, and didn't appreciate Payton until I got to college. It is exactly what it's named, a college prep. And if you can't deal with the course load, or the "unsympathetic" teachers then go to a school that doesn't prepare you for what lies ahead. I went to Depaul and felt that my...
