St. Nicholas Cathedral School (SNCS) is a private Catholic K-8 elementary school with about 150 students. There's also a preschool program. SNCS is connected with the St. Nicholas Cathedral, one of the cornerstones of the Ukrainian Village neighborhood. The main curriculum here focuses on reading, STEAM and high school readiness. Additionally, as a Catholic school attended by students of multiple faiths, religious studies start at the pre-kindergarten level. Ukrainian and Spanish are available as foreign languages, and academic pursuits for all students are augmented by in-class libraries and iPads. Children also have opportunities outside the classroom to learn and grow: Extracurriculars are a mix of technical, academic, creative and social pursuits. For example, there's a K-3 computer coding club, an eighth grade stock market program, sodality, a kindness club and even a school choir that has performed for the president of Ukraine. Extended-day programs and summer school are also available. SNCS is a private school, but it's also a Big Shoulders school. The Big Shoulders Fund is a nonprofit that assists with scholarships and provides organization-level support for values-based education. You can contact the school's administration to apply for financial aid. With benefits like a 1:13 teacher-to-student ratio, partnerships with universities, 80th percentile average test scores, sports starting in kindergarten and a dedicated playground, it's easy to see why students from SNCS get accepted to competitive public and private high schools. The school offers tours, so feel free to reach out directly if you'd like to take an in-person look.

My child attends St. Nicholas and we ve seen many improvements this past year. Beyond the external changes that have revitalized the look of the school, they ve made internal changes, as well. The principal has an open door policy, holds a weekly meeting with parents and works with the parent ambass...

This school has lost its focus this year. They were a great school up until this year. Last year they had a lot of great things and had a few great parents that worked their butts off to make it work. Now I don't see anything good in this school. They only offer one sport for the kids after school,...

I am a parent of a Pre-K student who started at the school this year. The staff is very caring and everyone has been very open, friendly and welcoming. There is a good focus on academics - my child does worksheets and art projects - and has improved at writing. St. Nicholas is reasonably priced, has...
