Richard Yates Elementary is located at 1839 N Richmond St. in Chicago's Logan Square and serves pre-kindergarten and kindergarten through eighth grade with a bilingual curriculum. The school is named after Richard Yates, who was the governor of Illinois from 1861 to 1864 during America's Civil War. Yates Elementary enrolls 299 students who enjoy an average classroom size of 19 and student-to-teacher ratios of 11-to-1. 90 percent of Yates' instructors have been teaching for three or more years. Yates' teachers work to integrate science, music, and the arts into the classroom at every grade level. Yates Elementary strives to address medical and environmental constraints in children's lives with school-based dental care and available crisis intervention services. As a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) school, Yates Elementary also promotes measures to improve students' behavioral outcomes. Yates is home to the "Bears" and students love to cheer their basketball, volleyball, soccer and football teams on to a "roaring" win. Yates' partnerships with the Girl Scouts, YMCA and the Adler Planetarium provides students with valuable extracurricular resources, and students may also join the choir or garden club for enrichment. Yates Elementary is dedicated to protecting her "cubs" with creative and responsive education models designed to nurture their academic success.

My experiences here were not what I was hoping for and...
