GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Overall, I have been very happy with my experience at Whitney Young. I have been surrounded by hardworking people who want to succeed, but also want to see me succeed. The diverse student body makes for interesting academic and social conversations that I think makes me a more well rounded person.

I like whitney young, its very academically demanding. There is a culture here that shames people who arent taking ap classes, who dont take honors, and generally people who arent taking classes at the highest levels. People here are expected to join one of the many many clubs, maybe a sport, and do other work on top of all this.

This school has amazing academics and staff. The teachers truly care about your growth and they notice when you are struggling. However, some senior activities have been cut recently. Overall, I recommend this school.

I am from a working class neighborhood located on the Southeast side of Chicago. Because of this school I was exposed to the arts and became a professional ballet dancer. Afterwards, I earned degrees from elite private colleges and universities - thank you to WYHS for opening the world to me !!!!!

This school is such a huge disappointment. My child choose it on his own because he is a high performing student and was very focused on college even from 7th grade when you make you high school choices in Chicago. Since attending-- he's a Junior now--, he performs fine academically but has gotten l...

Principal Kenner is interested in her image in the media and not individual students. The school has never confronted that the mostly white and Asian Academic Center students (7th and 8th graders) who continue into 9-12th grade carry the entire school. Without them, Whitney would be a dump, because...
