J. Sterling Morton Freshman Center is a public school that opened in 2004 and currently serves more than 1,000 freshmen students in the J. Sterling Morton High School District. Students in the freshman center who graduate from the Morton High School District generally do so at J. Sterling Morton East High School. The garden was even featured in 2021 in the United Nations International Day of Forests Celebration. Extracurricular activities include an adventure club, book club, digital media club, drama club, ecology club, mathletes and student council, for a start. Students can also participate in a variety of sports including golf, soccer, cross country, football, tennis, swimming, volleyball, cheerleading and more. The average class size at Sterling Morton Freshman Center is 20 students, which is on par with similar schools throughout the state.
