Glenridge Elementary in Clayton pays tribute to its past while looking to the future. The public school has been a recognizable fixture in the central Clayton neighborhood since it opened in 1929.
While the historic architecture remains, the more than 300 kindergarten through fifth grade students who attend Glenridge have access to SMART boards and other educational technology in each classroom.
The school places an emphasis on art, as all students receive an hour of instruction each week with additional opportunities from visiting local, national and international performers. Individual and group artwork is also displayed throughout the building, providing daily inspiration.
Chorus and a strings program are available to all fourth and fifth grade students. Some programs meet before school hours, while others are worked into the weekly curriculum. A gifted program is available to students in second through fifth grades who exhibit exceptional creativity, problem solving and critical thinking in relation to their peers.
Educators encourage a sense of community, as one of the hallmark programs of the school is the leadership program where fifth grade students lead monthly teams from all grade levels as they explore themes related to spreading kindness.
Glenridge is ranked as one of the top performing elementary schools in the state, and the majority of its students go on to attend Wydown Middle and Clayton High Schools.
