Moving to the next grade level is always exciting for children, but shifting from elementary to middle school is challenging. At CrossRoads Intermediate School, home of the Cougars, it’s all about the sixth grade experience as students learn to navigate multiple classrooms, teachers and schedules. Because this school enrolls only sixth graders, the staff and teachers focus on helping students transition not only to middle school but also to adolescence. Teams and small learning communities encourage group interaction while providing more individualized learning in math, language arts, social studies and science. Elective classes include visual and performing arts, band, chorus, drama, physical education and yearbook. A Careers in Technology course allows students to gain experience with topics like Google apps, computer programming and web design. Each CrossRoads Intermediate student also receives a district-issued Chromebook for school use. Outside of core academics, there’s plenty of time for extracurricular activities. Honors orchestra, band and chorus offer students a creative outlet, and several academic clubs, a student council and science and math competitions give students opportunities to develop leadership and critical thinking skills.

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

They denied my child the ability to go to the nurse's station on more than one occassion (including when injuries were present), struggle to handle the constant bullying and harassment, and several (not all) of the staff have attitudes when addressing the lack of support for the children. Then they threatened my child with punishment if he used his phone at school to contact me to let me know when he feels unsafe. Looking to transfer my child to another school. Stay away from this school.

My child has had one of the worst years of their life. They have gone from straight As to straight Fs. There is so much homework that my child cannot keep up. We have no way of knowing how to help because parents have zero access to assignments/projects that are due. There is constant bullying that...

On a scale of 1-10, again, in the negatives. As the other parent commented about Jess Hutchinson, who has sinced moved to another school, I believe, Justin Thomas has certainly NOT been an improvement, possibly worse (I can't compare the 2 fairly since I have no personal experience with Jess Hutchin...

My son attended this school in the 6th grade (2014). The education curriculum was good, but the principal Jess Hutchinson do not listen to his students. He rather believed what a nurse would say. Believed it or not, the nurse would make recommendations that my son talk to guidance or even the social...
