Stedman Elementary School, located at 2490 Dexter St. in Park Hill, Denver, has deep roots in the community going back one hundred years. It serves 350 students in kindergarten through the fifth grade, and it offers full day Early Childhood Education. The historic, multi-story brick building also features a large play and recreation area with a basketball court and separate playgrounds, and a vegetable garden with greenhouse. Principal Michael Atkins, a veteran of Denver Public Schools, and the staff are dedicated to the improvement and success of students. Stedman students typically score below the state average for math, literacy, and language. With that in mind, the administration has developed partnerships with La Napoule Art Foundation to bring in resident artists, with Discovery Link to provide before and after school enrichment, and with Launch MicroSchools! in a pilot program to enhance students’ leadership and academic skills. Stedman Elementary is a dual-language school. The program begins with Early Childhood Education and continues through the fifth grade. It offers the choice between intensive English language instruction, or Spanish language immersion. The program is new, but testing of Spanish immersion students in similar schools shows that students outperform their peers by the eighth grade. Students begin the day at 8:55 a.m. with a free breakfast provided by the school. The day ends at 3:55 p.m. The surrounding area is residential, and many students walk to school.

Just finishing up our first year at Stedman (entered in 3rd grade) and it has been amazing. My child felt comfortable and at home at this school very quickly, despite having just moved here. The teachers have all be wonderful. Literally when she is sick she still wants to go- I have to make her stay...

We have found a home at Stedman Elementary. The community is beyond what we had hoped for and our children are happy. The new Principal is truly and deeply committed to upholding the values of the school.
