In southeast Denver and overlooking the city skyline is Denver public high school, Thomas Jefferson. The school brings in students from around the area, resulting in a diverse student body and a culture described by students and faculty as a big family. Thomas Jefferson High, or TJ as it is referred to by staff and students, takes pride in creating a strong community that is full of school spirit. The school colors of brown and gold echo the original Denver Bronco’s football team uniforms from the shared founding year of 1960, which is a source of TJ Spartan pride and state history. The mission at Thomas Jefferson is to provide students with unique opportunities for academic success regardless of ability or background through the school motto, learn, challenge and lead. The Center for Communication Technology program (CCT) started at TJ in 1994 and features classes in many branches of communications and technology. Elective offerings include ceramics, AVID, DECA, JROTC, drama, music and languages such as French, Spanish and Japanese. TJ also offers Advanced Placement (AP) and honors classes, ACT study sessions and concurrent enrollment courses to prepare students for post-secondary education and beyond.

Thomas Jefferson has amazing sources for activities. Whether this be for sports, art, activism, and any other kind of social activities that can unite students. Something I would like to see changed however though is is the administration. Though they are active in the school system, I don't feel as though they are really connected to their students and their needs.

It was really fun being a student a TJ. The teachers were nice and very helpful when I need help with things. I wish that they would push us more to stay on task.

It was fun but got a little challenging at the end. I had good teachers that helped and actually teach and I had a good social life.

Horrible school, they do not deal with student punishments fairly and sweep serious matters under the rug to better their rep.

In this pandemic year, I think TJ has done as well as can be expected. Our daughter is a freshman and enjoys all of her teachers, at this point she goes in person 2 days per week. She has also gotten involved in sports and has made some very nice friends to start. Overall, good teachers, good famili...

Awful. From Day 1 TJ has made my son feel like an afterthought. From having to run around in circles just to get him transferred, to his councilor ignoring repeated requests to continue with concurrent enrollment classes he was doing well in (which took me finally yelling at his councilor after watc...
