Kindergarten through fifth-grade students reach higher at Highlands Elementary. This highly rated elementary school is proud to be part of the Edina Public School District along with five other elementary buildings. Thanks to the dedicated staff and encouraging community, Highlands Elementary prepares students to build relationships and achieve their highest potential. One unique way students at Highlands can build relationships is through the Continuous Progress program. This program creates student groups that remain together for four years under two teachers. Second- and third-grade classrooms are combined, as well as fourth- and fifth-grade rooms, taught by skilled teachers. While the number of students in the class remains comparable with the district average, this program allows students and teachers to get to know each other better than in a standard classroom format. Edina Public Schools is committed to preparing students for future success. Highlands Safety Patrol and the Green Team are two examples of extracurricular opportunities to promote student leadership. Students from multilingual families can receive the enriching and welcoming support they need at Highlands Elementary. There is also a talent development program for students who have an academic or extracurricular gift. A strong parent-teacher organization and supportive community in the Highlands neighborhood help teachers prepare students with future-ready competencies, like being responsible citizens and innovative thinkers.

Average experience. The school is being stretched and going through lots of changes. The district is spending to much money on sticks and bricks and forgetting about the fundamentals. The students, programs and teachers should be the focus. Constant school start time changes are getting old for work...

My daughter is a student at Highlands right now and having a wonderful experience. The teachers are fantastic. They are all highly qualified and they truly care about every single child. It's a very diverse population, when my daughter has a party is like a mini UN meeting. Kids are exposed to many...

Extremely disorganized environment/classrooms. "Unstructured" learning leaves my son lost, needs structure. Teachers are distant, not engaged, self-important.

I have had 2 boys go through Highlands in the discovery program and have loved the school. Class sizes can be big, often over 30 but the teachers are wonderful. They loop for 1st/2nd grade and 3rd/4th grade which really works well for the kids and the year gets off to a quick effortless start in sep...
